An application was submitted to Cumbria County Council for the demolition of Gooseholme Bridge in Kendal. The bridge is located to the eastern edge of Kendal Town Centre, on the River Kent and within the conservation area. The existing bridge sustained significant damage during Storm Desmond and has been closed to the public since late 2015. The bridge provides an important pedestrian link to the town centre.
PFK have been working alongside Cumbria County Council and Story Contracting to develop a scheme for a replacement bridge, for which funding has now been secured. The replacement bridge has been designed to improve water flow beneath it, thus reducing flood risk.
Approval for the demolition of the existing bridge was granted by the Development Control and Regulation Committee on 13 August 2019.
We look forward to continuing to support this project as it progresses.
